Life can offer opportunities at the most unusual times, even with a simple request to drive a car and your life is changed forever.

This is the story of a college student asked to drive a YMCA of the Rockies board member to a homestead that was for sale. He then witnesses the decision to create Snow Mountain Ranch YMCA, and eventually works there for over a decade during the formative years.

Snow Mountain Ranch YMCA turns fifty in 2019. This is the story about the early years, the challenges, the excitement, and the opportunity of a lifetime.

Ruesch grew up in Estes Park. He started his writing career writing with Bethany Press in 1968.  Since then, along with a career at the YMCA of the Rockies, he has been blessed with articles in emergency medical magazines, Workamper, several locals, regional, and national newspapers on various subjects.  Robert is a Senior Chaplain with Christian Resort Ministries and lives in another paradise, Evergreen Colorado with his wife and special needs son.

Hiking Rocky Mountain National Park: The Essential Guide by [Stensland, Erik]

Hiking RMNP: The Essential Guide was written to help you have the most amazing wilderness experience possible in one of America’s most beautiful national parks. It informs you about what to expect, how to prepare and what to know in order to stay safe while also respecting this fragile environment.

Whether you are looking for a gentle stroll with young children or planning to push your limits, this hiking book has it all. It guides you on 75 of the most amazing hikes in Rocky Mountain National Park. It takes a unique approach and organizes the hikes by difficulty level rather than by geographical location. It begins with the easiest hike and progresses to the most difficult.

Find Waldo in Estes Park!

All of July in Estes Park!

Where’s Waldo? In Estes Park , of course! The iconic children’s book character in the red-and-white-striped shirt and black-rimmed specs is visiting local businesses throughout our community this July. Find Waldo Local is a great summer vacation activity and a wonderful way to support local businesses and the Shop Local movement in our community, including Outdoor World, Colorado Homestead, Images of Rocky Mountain National Park and more!

Anyone who wishes to participate can pick up a “Find Waldo Local in Estes!” passport, which contains the names of all the participating sites, and get their passport stamped or signed for each Waldo they spot. And to make things a little more challenging, Waldo’s nemesis, Odlaw, will also be hiding in Macdonald Book Shop.

Diligent seekers and stamp collectors will be entered into a grand-prize drawing on July 31, with the top prize being a copy of Where’s Waldo? Destination: Everywhere!, a tribute to Waldo’s many decades of wandering.

There is no charge to participate, and the hunt lasts for the entire month of July. For more information about hunting for Waldo in Estes Park, call Macdonald Book Shop at 970-586-3450.
